Minister Poudel claims big; pledges to light every home in 10 years

Lalitpur, October 3:

Minister for Water Resources Bishnu Poudel has called all concerned to forge a consensus to light every home within the country in 10 years.

Speaking at an interaction today on ‘Water Resources and Energy Development’, a part of national discussion on ‘Development of infrastructure for the construction of New Nepal: Challenges and Opportunities’, organised by the Engineering Study Group (ESTUG), Poudel said the government aimed to generate 10,000 MW in a decade and light every Nepali home.

He said, “ If we go by the old work culture, it will be impossible for this loktantrik government to achieve the goal on electrification.”

“The goal can be achieved if the new government moves ahead in a dynamic way on the basis of national consensus.”

He said the government wanted to use to the maximum the skill, labour and capital of Nepalis. “Our major responsibility right now is to take initiatives to produce skilled human resources,” he said.

The minister also stressed the need to amend acts and regulations related to water resources

in line with the changing times so as to build a new Nepal. He said there is need to find the causes of load-shedding and come out with a solution.

Dr Dinesh Chandra Devkota presented a paper on Drinking Water and Hygiene Policies, Challenges and Issues.
