Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Wednesday inspected the devastated ministers' quarters in Bhanisepati, Lalitpur.
The quarters were set ablaze during the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9.
Following the inspection, Minister Ghising pledged to expedite the reconstruction of the damaged structures without delay. "There has been large-scale destruction in the ministers' quarters. We are collecting details of the losses," he said.
A total of 27 modern, well-equipped buildings constructed on 16 ropani and 10 ana of land for federal ministers, the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the National Assembly, and the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives were completely destroyed in the arson attack.
Similarly, contact offices built on 27 ropani and 12 ana of land for the Province Chiefs and Chief Ministers of all seven provinces were also torched. Security in and around the premises has since been tightened by the Nepali Army.
Meanwhile, both ministers visited the Nepal Police Hospital in Maharajgunj to inquire about the health conditions of those injured during the protests.
According to hospital officials, 16 police personnel and one civilian are currently undergoing treatment. So far, a total of 74 people have lost their lives in the Gen-Z protests.
