MoH seeks tobacco ban on Singha Durbar premises

Kathmandu, May 12

The Ministry of Health and Population has written a letter to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Home Affairs requesting them to ban sale, distribution and use of tobacco and tobacco products on the premises of Singha Durbar.

Earlier on March 23, Minister of State for Health and Population Padma Kumari Aryal had taken the decision to ban consumption of tobacco products at the ministry.

Since then no one is allowed to enter the premises of the ministry carrying tobacco products. The rule is implemented for ministry staffers as well as the public visiting the ministry.

As per the Tobacco Product (Control and Regulatory) Act- 2011, consumption of tobacco is prohibited at public places, including government offices, educational institutions, libraries, training and health related institutions, airport, public transport, child welfare homes, child care centres, factories, cinema halls, cultural centres and theatres.
