KATHMANDU, MARCH 22

Acting Chairperson of the Muslim Commission, Mahammadin Ali, has been accused of indulging in corruption. A complaint has been registered with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), claiming that Ali has committed corruption. The registration number of the complaint filed with the authority is C-009489.

According to the complaint, Ali, who has been living in his own house in Samakhushi, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, deceived the Muslim Commission into paying him house rent of 18 thousand rupees per month. He was appointed to the Muslim Commission four years ago.

However, Ali told THT that he took the money in accordance with the law. "My house had been damaged by an earthquake and was unsafe to live in. As a result, I stayed in a rented house while my house was being refurbished. I took rent after six months of assuming office as commission member and have already stopped taking after my house was ready to live in."

He also stated that some people are furious with him and have filed a case. "However, the reality is nothing like that. It is provided in the law that 18000 per month rent would be provided to commission members and I took the money in as per the law," he said.

Ali has been appointed as the Muslim Commission's acting chairperson, succeeding Samimmiya Ansari, who completed his six-year term. Ali, a senior member, took over as acting chairman a few days ago.

He has been charged with receiving illegal benefits from the state treasury and causing financial loss to the Government of Nepal. The petition demands investigation and prosecution Ali for the crime of corruption, as he abused his authority.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the complaint. The Authority had sent a complaint to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, as well as the Office of the Council of Ministers, to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, instructing them to take appropriate action and informing them. Following that, the ministry questioned the Muslim Commission about the case.

According to the source, he has already been paid more than 850,000 rupees for the house demolition.
