Nepal Police registered 4,468 criminal cases nationwide in the month of Falgun (mid-February to mid-March), with banking offenses accounting for the highest share at 25.22%, mostly related to cheque bounce cases.
According to DIG Dinesh Kumar Acharya, the central spokesperson for Nepal Police, criminal activities-including banking fraud and social media-related crimes-have surged, particularly in Kathmandu Valley.
Among the cases, 1,127 were banking offenses, followed by 521 crimes against public interest, health, safety, and morality. Additionally, 501 suicide-related cases, 419 drug-related crimes, 286 thefts, 168 rapes, 162 frauds, 154 vehicular homicides, 71 attempted murders, and 42 murders were recorded.
By province, Kathmandu Valley reported the highest number of cases (1,337), followed by Madhes (711), Koshi (665), Lumbini (612), Bagmati (376), Sudurpaschim (279), Gandaki (323), and Karnali (161).
