KATHMANDU, JANUARY 18

The 19th session of the Upper House commenced at the old National Assembly building located within the Federal Parliament Secretariat premises in Singha Durbar.

Announcing the opening of the session, NA Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal welcomed the members.

On the occasion, Chairperson Dahal read out the letter received from the Office of the President regarding the convening of the session. Immediately afterward, the Assembly observed a minute of silence in tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for democracy.

The NA meeting also passed a condolence motion on the demise of its member, Baldev Bohara. Born in 2008 BS, Bohara of Kanchanpur passed away on January 14. He was a member of the Constituent Assembly elected in 2070 BS and was elected to the National Assembly in 2080 BS.

Elections for 19 new members are scheduled for January 25. The National Assembly will reconvene on January 22.
