Candidates required to open separate bank accounts and submit detailed expenses after the January 25 polls

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 29

The Election Commission (EC) has fixed the maximum election expenditure limit for candidates contesting the upcoming National Assembly (NA) election at Rs 350,000.

According to the EC, the spending ceiling includes clearly defined caps under different headings. Candidates will be allowed to spend up to Rs 70,000 on vehicle rent and Rs 10,000 on fuel during the election period. Expenditure on publicity materials has been capped at Rs 1,500.

Similarly, the EC has allocated Rs 10,000 for transportation costs, Rs 100,000 for organising seminars and interaction programmes, and Rs 14,500 for expenses related to print and electronic media.

Other permissible expenditures include Rs 70,000 for office management, Rs 30,000 for the mobilisation of representatives, and Rs 30,000 under miscellaneous expenses.

The National Assembly election is scheduled to be held on January 25, 2026.

The EC has also directed candidates to open a separate bank account at a bank or financial institution exclusively for election-related transactions. Candidates must also designate a responsible person to oversee and manage election expenditures.

Following the completion of the polls, candidates are required to submit a detailed statement of election expenses to the EC in accordance with the National Assembly Member Election Act, 2075 BS.
