KATHMANDU, JANUARY 27
During Monday's meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party, parliamentarians emphasized the need for financial compensation for the victims of cooperative scams, to be provided by the cooperatives responsible for the misappropriation of funds.
Held at the Parliament Building in Baneshwor, the meeting participants argued that the substantial amount owed to the victims should be repaid by those who misused the cooperatives' funds, rather than the State, as the sum involved is staggering.
Chief Whip of the parliamentary party, Shyam Kumar Ghimire, informed the lawmakers that the government had introduced an ordinance in line with these sentiments.
The office-bearers are currently deliberating contemporary political issues during the meeting.
Ghimire expressed confidence that the ordinance would help resolve the issues faced by victims of the cooperatives' fraud.
On a separate note, he assured that the government would adhere to the seven-point agreement between Nepali Congress and CPN (UML).
During the meeting, NC ministers in the current government briefed lawmakers on the government's activities, alongside their individual undertakings.
The parliamentary party meeting has been adjourned until 8:00 AM on January 31.
