KATHMANDU, MARCH 21

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police has taken the statement of Nepali Congress lawmaker and billionaire industrialist, Binod Chaudhary, in connection with the Bansbari land scandal. The statement was recorded today at the District Government Attorney's office.

Chaudhary has been alleged for his involvement in the misappropriation of a 10 ropanis land area belonging to the Bansbari Leather and Shoe Factory.

Earlier on February 1, his younger brother industrialist, Arun Chaudhary, was also arrested in connection with the scandal, along with the then executive head of the shoe factory, Ajit Narayan Singh Thapa. Sanjay Thakur, chairman of the steering committee of BLSF, was also arrested.

All three were later released on court date by Kathmandu District Court.

According to the Additional Inspector General of Police and CIB chief Shyam Lal Gyawali, Chaudhary was summoned solely to record a statement and was not arrested.

Before summoning the lawmaker Chaudhary, the CIB had informed the House of Representatives speaker, Devraj Ghimire, through the parliament Secretariat regarding the ongoing investigation involving Chaudhary.
