KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 2

Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel said at a press conference today that there would be only one candidate for the presidency of the party.

Paudel, who had earlier expressed desire to contest for the post of party president, was flanked by NC leaders Shekhar Koirala, Shashank Koirala and Prakash Man Singh, who earlier had also expressed their desire to be candidates for the NC president in the 14th National Convention scheduled from November 25 to 29 in Kathmandu.

Paudel has tried to give the message of party unity and consensus among leaders of the NC's different factions a day before the party holds its ward level convention, marking the commencement of the NC's 14th National Convention, .

NC lawmaker Gagan Thapa, who had announced his candidacy for the post of general secretary, also attended the press conference signalling that he was now with Paudel. In the last National Convention, Thapa was in Krishna Prasad Sitaula's camp. NC leaders Sujata Koirala and Arjun Narsingh KC were also present at the press conference.
