NEFEJ to air documentaries on culture

KATHMANDU: Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists has announced that it would air documentaries through a television programme in a bid to preserve Nepali culture and tradition.

The movies would be telecast every fortnight starting Tuesday in a programme called Akhijhyal on Avenues TV.

The programme will highlight issues such as the problems faced by Dalits, pre-marital traditions of indigenous Lapcha community and the story behind Gaura Festival.

The first documentary will focus on Gufa — a ritual that actually intended to impart Newari girls sex-education before they reached puberty. The movies under the title Hamro Sanskriti: Hamro Parampara have been jointly produced the Danish Embassy and NEFEJ.
