NEFIN concerned about SPA pact

Kathmandu, December 26:

The umbrella organisation of all the indigenous nationalities of the country, Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), today expressed serious concern over the 23-point agreement signed by the seven parties on Sunday.

“We will resume struggle for a fully proportional election system to ensure proper representation of all ethnic groups, gender, regions and communities,” said Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar, the NEFIN’s general secretary, issuing a press statement today.

Magar said the NEFIN has come to a conclusion that the mixed election system will not ensure proportional representation of all the indigenous nationalities, women, people of Tarai and Dalits in the Constituent Assembly. The NEFIN, however, has welcomed the decision to declare the country federal democratic republic.
