Nepal One journalists gherao MoIC
Kathmandu, September 1:
Agitating journalists of Nepal One Television today gheraoed the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) to draw the attention of the minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara towards their month-long protests.
Manoj Jha, coordinator of Nepal One Television Protest Mobilisation Committee today told this daily that minister mahara has assured them of meeting their demands as soon as possible.
He said, “The ministry would hold a meeting with Indian Ambassador to discuss on the rights of agitating journalists.”
Minister Mahara also condemned the use of force against the journalists at a peaceful sit-in at Singha Durbar gate on Sunday.
The journalists gheraoed the MoIC for one hour from 10 to 11 am and barred all the staffs of the ministry including the minister from executing their regular works.
Minister Mahara revealed that he had been talking to Prime Minister Prachanda informally about the legal status of Nepal One Television in Nepal.
He also assured that the issue would be taken up by the cabinet as well.
Jha further said that the committee would wait for a few days.
“But if the government failed to initiate action as per its commitment, we would be forced to lunch a decisive phase of protests,” he added.
