LALITPUR: Nepali Congress candidates Chiri Babu Maharjan and Gita Satyal have been elected the mayor and deputy mayor respectively, in the Lalitpur Metropolitan City.

The NC candidate for the metropolis' executive, Chiri Babu Maharjan garnered 24,642 votes while his closest contender Hari Krishna Byanjankar of UML  mustered 24,316 votes, according to the Chief Election Official Bal Krishna Dawadi.

Similarly, Satyal secured 19,819 votes against her closest contender Shova Shakya from Sahja Party with a difference of 5,579 votes.  Shakya garnered 14,240 votes.

The CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajantantra Party Nepal had forged an electoral alliance for the local polls in Lalitpur.
