Nepali recieves PhD in rural development

Kathmandu, May 4
Chandra Bahadur Shrestha has been conferred Ph D degree in Regional and Rural Development Planning by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, according to a press release.
Using the empirical data from Nawalparasi, Shrestha completed his dissertation “Developing and Testing a Participatory Methodology for District Road Network Planning in Nepal.”
“The developed methodology is expected to be useful for Nepal and other developing countries,” said the press release.
Recently, he was involved in the Asian Development Bank for conducting a study in the Philippines. In the study, he assessed the impact of the rural roads on poverty reduction. While conducting his study at the AIT, he was affiliated with the International Labour Organization in Cambodia. He worked as a member of a group of expatriates for developing the rural road policy for the Government of Cambodia. Before joining the Ph.D., he worked for the Pilot Labour Based District Road Rehabilitation and Maintenance Project, a joint endeavor of HMG/N, UNDP and the World Bank. He was also briefly affiliated with the Rural Urban Partnership Programme, an UNDP/UNCHS project.
He completed the M.Sc. degree in Rural and Regional Development Planning from the AIT in 1994. He was awarded the Mahendra Vidya Bhusan – Kha for his outstanding performance in M.Sc. degree at the AIT. Having a background of the Civil Engineering, he has completed his BBA and MBA from the Tribhuvan University.
