NHRC for child-friendly statute

KATHMANDU: Kedar Nath Upadhyaya, chairperson, National Human Right Commission, today called for a child-friendly constitution that would address the plights of children.

“The constitution-makers should take cognisance of the United Nations convention to ensure that voices of every single child be heard while drafting new constitution,” Upadhyaya said, addressing a programme organised here to mark 22nd anniversary of Child Workers in Nepal Concerned Centre(CWIN).

Upadhyaya also said that the discriminatory provisions in the old constitution be scrapped once and for all. “The new statute should consider international convention and those provisions should be implemented,” he added.
