KATHMANDU, MAY 15
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed his support for appointing a capable individual to the vacant post of Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on the basis of merit rather than personal connections.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Former Planners Forum, Nepal, today, Prime Minister Oli stated, "I have no one personally close to me to recommend as the Governor of Rastra Bank. We must appoint competent individuals based on meritocracy. If there are capable people who can deliver, it will benefit the country. I do not want anyone identified as 'my person.' I may be the Prime Minister, but I am not the sole authority in government. Therefore, I prioritize meritocracy as much as possible."
On the occasion, the Prime Minister also clarified that appointments to the Chair and members of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances were made based on the report submitted by the recommendation committee.
He emphasized that, except for the Chairperson-whom he had known previously as Chief Secretary-he had no personal acquaintance or relationship with any of the other appointees.
The Prime Minister further expressed his hope that the Former Planners Forum would foster the exchange of ideas and experiences, and that it would remain a sustainable platform, free from personality-driven disputes.
