NSU to prepare for convention
Kathmandu, April 29:
Nepal Students’ Union president Pradip Poudel today said the central committee meeting would be called on May 7 to begin preparation for national convention.
“The central committee meeting to be held on May 7 would begin the preparation for the national convention as demanded by the NSU leaders,” Poudel told this daily.
The NSU has asked the Nepali Congress not to participate in the next government.
He said the NSU had been facing crisis with a large number of its members in the central committee. “We have 10 vice-presidents, four general secretaries, 18 joint general secretaries and a large number of members and even the lower committees have the same problem,” he said.
Poudel said the question of merging the two unions would be the major agenda during the central committee meeting.
However, NSU vice-president Bhupendra Jung Shahi claimed that Poudel would not be able to hold the national convention of the union, as there were four different NSU committees in some districts. Morang has four district committees and many other districts have three committees, he said.
“More programmes to picket NC leaders are in the offing,” he said, adding that the gherao programme planned today did not materialise, as there was no meeting of the NC.
“We are meeting different NC leaders and consulting the former NSU leaders to resolve the present crisis,” he said.
