KATHMANDU, MAY 19

General Secretary of Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has announced that his party will continue to obstruct the House until the formation of a parliamentary probe committee on the misappropriation of cooperative funds.

Speaking to media persons following the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday evening, General Secretary Thapa reiterated the need for a parliamentary committee before the House convenes on Monday.

"We support the proper functioning of parliament. I believe the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister will be ready to form the parliamentary committee in a manner that meets the objective before the next meeting of parliament scheduled for 11:00 am Monday," he said, warning that if the probe committee is not formed, the Nepali Congress will continue its obstruction.

Thapa clarified that the investigation committee was demanded due to doubts about the government's integrity. He suspected undue influence from the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister on the formation of the probe committee.

"DPM Rabi Lamichhane has obstructed and exerted undue influence on the efforts to form the probe committee. His presentation in parliament also showed that he was deviating from this demand. It clearly proves that he is afraid and dodging the parliamentary probe committee," General Secretary Thapa emphasized.

Thapa further noted that his party was not targeting any specific party. He questioned why the new party was not addressing these concerns. "If these issues were raised against any other person, an investigation could begin," he asserted.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire had removed the schedules for special and emergency hours from today's House of Representatives meeting after DPM Lamichhane expressed his views.

In response, General Secretary Thapa organized a press conference to share the party's views.

Prime Minister Dahal is scheduled to take a vote of confidence on Monday.
