One buried to death, two hurt while laying sewer pipes in Mulpani

KATHMANDU: A man lost his life and two others sustained injuries after land caved in and buried them at a sewer construction site in Mulpani, on the outskirts of Kathmandu, on Monday.

The fatal incident occurred when an excavator was digging the road to lay sewer pipes at Amarsingh Chok, police said.

The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Damodar Bastakoti, who was employed at the Nepal Electricity Authority as a security guard. He hailed from Gorkha district and was currently residing in Mulpani.

Critically injured in the incident, Bastakoti was rushed to the Kandaghari-based Motherland Hospital where he breathed his last, according to police.

The injured, identified as Prem Bahadur Lopchan Tamang (48) of Dhungrekhola-9, Sarlahi, and Sonam Tamang (30) of Kavre, are labourers who were working for the project. They were admitted to the Motherland Hospital for treatment.

Police said the excavator driver was on the run after the incident.
