Opposition parties obstruct House meeting yet again

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers of various opposition parties including the main opposition CPN-UML obstructed the House meeting yet again on Monday.

The parties have been obstructing the Parliamentary proceedings since September 29, when the government registered a Constitution amendment bill, which the parties have been claiming to be against national interests.

Speaking on behalf of the opposition parties today, lawmaker Kamala Bishwakarma demanded that the bill be withdrawn as it was brought out with an intention to bring divisions among people living in harmony.

While the opposition lawmakers obstructed the meeting by standing up from their seats, Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar tried to convince them that resuming the meeting was a must to formulate election-related laws to ensure timely polls at local, provincial and federal levels.

The obstructors, however, did not heed her, forcing the chief of the legislative body to repeat her requests.

Later, she announced that the meeting was postponed for 4 pm today.
