Over Rs 1 lakh looted from house, mill

Kathmandu, January 7:

A group of 15 unidentified persons looted Rs 60,000 and nine tolas of gold jewellery from Krishna Bahadur Khatri’s house at Matatirtha village development committee, Kathmandu, last evening. Khatri is the former vice-chairman of the VDC. According to police, the armed men overpowered all the six members of the house — Khatri, his wife, three daughters and a son — and fled with the money, jewellery and a camera. According to police, the robbers tied the family members with a rope, locked the main door of the house and fled.

“When the neighbours didn’t see the lights switched on till late in the evening, they broke open the house and found all thefamily members tied and robbed off,” police said. In another case, a group of seven persons looted Rs 50,000 from Kalanki Trishuli Rice Mill owned by Deepak Burlakoti. According to Burlakoti, they entered the building by identifying themselves as security personnel and said that they had to “conduct a search” in the mill.

The armed group overpowered Burlakoti after entering the building and decamed with the money. Police said that they also took away signed cheques worth Rs 300,000. Deepak Burlakoti was all alone in the mill when the incident occurred at around 3am today. A search is on to identify and nab the culprits, police said.
