KATHMANDU, APRIL 5

Both houses of the Federal Parliament are meeting today, with the House of Representatives scheduled to elect Dol Prasad Aryal as Speaker.

Dol Prasad Aryal elected House Speaker unopposed

First session of new House of Representatives begins today

The HoR meeting is scheduled at 11:00 am at the under-construction Federal Parliament Building in Singha Durbar. Aryal, Vice-President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, is set to be elected unopposed. He was the sole candidate to file his nomination for the post within the stipulated deadline on Friday.

Aryal's candidacy was proposed by party chair Rabi Lamichhane and seconded by lawmakers Sobita Gautam, Dr Swarnim Wagle and Sunil Lamsal.

The National Assembly will meet at 12:15 pm, where committee memberships will be reshuffled and nominations made for presiding members.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah is also scheduled to present the annual report of the Women's Commission for FY 2081/82.
