Peace, statute-making govt’s priority, says Prachanda

Kathmandu, September 4:

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today said the government’s priority was to bring the peace process to a logical conclusion, draft the new constitution on time, bring economic prosperity and safeguard national interests.

Launching the first broadcast of ABC News Television, Prachanda said the draft of the government’s policies and programme were at the final stage and the fiscal budget to be presented by his government would provide relief to the people.

He also said that a section of the society was trying to sabotage the process of change that came about after the abolition of the monarchy. He, however, did not elaborate on this.

He urged the media to be responsible and accountable to the people and the nation while

disseminating both news and views. Addressing the function, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam said the government would be dedicating itself to make a new Nepal in accordance with the people’s aspiration. He said maintaining rule of law and security were some of the priorities of the government. He urged the media to play a constructive role.

Minister for Information and Communication Krishna Bahadur Mahara said the media should enjoy the right to freedom of expression and play a role to take the country towards prosperity.
