Petroleum price hike opposed

Kathmandu, September 4:

The students affiliated to All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU) today organised hour-long chakkajams in front of all major campuses in the valley against the hike in the price of petroleum products and the sedition charges labelled against student leader Govinda Nepali. Govinda Nepali, Free Students’ Union (FSU) Chairman of Mahendra Multiple Campus at Baglung was arrested two weeks ago while protesting against the rise in price of petro products.

The students organised chakkajams in front of Ratna Rajya Multiple Campus, Min Bhawan Campus and Patan Multiple Campus in the morning and halted traffic by burning tyres. They also called for the restoration of total democracy. Traffic was also disrupted for an hour in the morning in front of the Amrit Science Campus at Lainchour. Thakur Gaire, general secretary of ANNFSU, addressing a corner meet in front of the Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, called the government’s indiscriminate arrest of students ‘autocratic.’
