Police investigating student’s death in rented room
Kathmandu, January 4
Police have begun investigation into the mysterious death of Bidhya Acharya, a 23-year-old bachelor’s level student of pharmacy in Kathmandu University. Acharya was found dead in her rented room in Bakhundol on the outskirts of Kathmandu Valley yesterday.
A resident of Dhunibeshi Municipality - 6, Acharya was found hanging in her rented room. “We found a suicide note, which says she committed suicide after she failed her exams,” said Inspector Ravi Raj Thapaliya. “We have begun investigation into the case,” he added.
The university had conducted examinations of the sixth semester in September and the results were out in November. “We didn’t see any change in her behaviour after the results,” said Rajani Shakya, head of pharmacy department, KU. The body was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat today.
Recently, Binisha Shah, a Nepali student pursuing dental education in Pioneer Dental College and Hospital in Dhaka, committed suicide in her hostel room on December 19.
