President tells Speaker to bring all parties to consensus
KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Friday told Speaker Onsari Gharti to take all parties in a Parliament into confidence to smoothly carry out the House business.
Bhandari told Gharti to play an effective role in ending differences among the parties as the latter had visited the Sheetal Niwas for a regular meeting with the President at around 10 am today.
In response, the Speaker told Bhandari that she had been holding separate meetings with key political leaders including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and the main opposition leader KP Sharma Oli in a bid to end growing gaps among the parties.
Gharti added that she was always ready to play her role to build consensus among the parties.
The meeting has taken place just a day after the main opposition CPN-UML began obstructing House proceedings protesting the Constitution amendment bill that the government recently registered.
The Speaker on the occasion had briefed the Head of the State about her Russia visit recently.
