KATHMANDU, AUGUST 19

President Ramchandra Paudel received the Nawayagyopavit Janai and Rakshabandhan today, in accordance with Vedic rituals, as part of the Rakshabandhan and Janai Purnima celebrations.

The Nawayagyopavit, or Janai, is a consecrated thread worn around the torso by Hindu men who have undergone the coming-of-age rites, while the Rakshabandhan is a sanctified thread tied around the wrist as a symbol of protection from harm.

President Paudel received the Yagyopavit and Rakshabandhan from priest Arjun Neupane at the auspicious moment, following the prescribed Vedic rituals. First Lady Sabita Paudel also received the Rakshabandhan from Neupane on this occasion, according to the Office of the President.

Additionally, the President's close relatives were adorned with the Rakshabandhan at the President's residence, Shital Niwas.
