PM, UDMF agree to forward amendment bill before local polls

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and leaders of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) today agreed to forward the Constitution Amendment bill registered at the Secretariat of Legislature-Parliament before the elections at all three levels--local, provincial and federal--at the earliest.

In the meeting held at PM's official residence in Baluwatar this morning, PM Dahal and UDMF leaders discussed issues of Constitution amendment, locals polls, finding resolution to the House obstruction and other contemporary political issues.

Addressing the Madhesi leaders' demand that the local polls should not be conducted before amending the Constitution, the meeting concluded with both sides' agreement to conduct the three-tier elections after putting Constitution amendment forward.

It is stated that PM Dahal was positive regarding the issues. Similarly, UDMF also expressed the commitment to support the local election.

CPN-Maoist Centre leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Pampha Bhusal, and UDMF leaders Mahantha Thakur, Rajendra Mahato, Hrideyesh Tripathi, Laxman Lal Karna, Mahendra Ray Yadav, Raj Kishor Yadav and Anil Kumar Jha were present in the meeting.

The main opposition CPN-UML and nine other parties are agitating against the Constitution amendment bill, citing it as the move against the national sovereignty and integrity.
