KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 14
In a triumphant homecoming, thousands of supporters thronged Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Monday to welcome a team of record-holding Nepali climbers who completed the incredible feat of summiting all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks. The climbers had just returned from Tibet, where they scaled Shishapangma, the last of the peaks on their journey.
The climbers were celebrated in a event organized by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) at its headquarters in Nagpokhari, Naxal, Kathmandu. The event recognized their extraordinary achievements, marking a proud moment for Nepal's mountaineering community.
Among the distinguished climbers was Dawa Yangzum Sherpa, the first Nepali woman to summit all 14 peaks.
Nima Rinji Sherpa, who became the youngest person ever to complete this challenge, also received special recognition.
Meanwhile, Mingma Gyalje Sherpa was honored for summiting all the peaks without supplemental oxygen, and Nirmal Purja for fastest ascent of all 14 peaks without supplemental oxygen and achieving 50 summits of 8,000 meters mountains.
Other celebrated climbers included Tejan Gurung, the first from the Gurung community to finish the 14-peak challenge, and Pasang Tendi Sherpa, who also completed his 14th 8,000er. Dawa Gyalje Sherpa, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, and Mingtemba Sherpa, who all completed the summit of all 14 peaks after the ascent of Shishapangma, and joining the ranks of these accomplished mountaineers.
