‘Resolve dispute over Parliament regulations’

Kathmandu, January 25

Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar today urged top leaders of the major political parties resolve the dispute over Parliament Regulations, saying she was facing difficulty in running the business of the House due to the lack of new regulations.

Organising a meeting of top leaders and chief whips of the major parties, Speaker Magar urged them to resolve the disputed issues right away.

According to Magar’s press advisor Babin Sharma, leaders promised to resolve the disputes by holding a meeting of the top leaders of major parties very soon.

“Leaders said they understand the difficulty I am facing and promised to settle the issue very soon,” Sharma quoted Speaker Magar as saying.

Sharma further said Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal was the only top leader attending the meeting. Former speaker and CPN-UML Vice-chairman Subas Chandra Nembang and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Agni Kharel and Chief Whip Bhanubhakta Dhakal were present from the UML; Minendra Rijal and Chief Whip Chinkaji Shrestha from NC; Chief Whip Dilnath Giri from RPP-Nepal and Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of MJF-Democratic Bijay Kumar Gachhadar also attended the meeting.

Unified CPN-Maoist Chief Hitraj Pande said drafting of the parliament regulations was being delayed as Parliament Regulations Drafting Committee Chairman Radheshyam Adhikari was busy making preparations for the NC’s National General Convention.

“Therefore the Speaker has requested the leaders to resolve the problem amicably, while the latter have promised to resolve the issue before the Parliament meeting slated to be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday,” Pande said.
