KATHMANDU, AUGUST 23
The ruling coalition issued a joint statement today condemning the language of threat used by the establishment faction of the CPN-UML against Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota over the issue of expulsion of 14 UML lawmakers.
Nepali Congress Whip Pushpa Bhusal, Chief Whip of CPN-Maoist Centre Dev Gurung, Pradeep Yadav of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal, Durga Paudel of Rastriya Janamaorcha and Jeevan Ram Shrestha of the Khanal-Nepal faction of the CPN-UML jointly issued a statement condemning the language used by UML lawmakers at the Parliament Secretariat recently.
They also decried UML Chair KP Sharma Oli's remarks in the media that Speaker Sapkota was acting like a Maoist cadre.
The ruling coalition said in the statement that the language of threat used by the UML leaders against Speaker Sapkota was against democratic norms and the constitution.
Recently, some UML lawmakers had gone to the speaker's office twice demanding that he issue a notice confirming the expulsion of 14 lawmakers, and warned him that if he didn't do that, they would not remain silent.
The establishment faction of the UML had expelled 14 House of Representatives members from the Khanal-Nepal faction, including Madhav Kumar Nepal, on the charge of defying the party whip.
The establishment faction of the UML has demanded that Speaker Sapkota issue a notice confirming the expulsion of 14 lawmakers, but he is yet to issue one. The UML has been exerting pressure on him to issue the notice to confirm the expulsion.
