KATHMANDU, NOV 10
The Supreme Court continued its interim order passed against the Election Commission's decision to prohibit people from running No, Not Again campaign aimed at political leaders who, despite being old and active in politics for many decades, are contesting provincial and parliamentary elections once again.
A division bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Sushmalata Mathema issued the interim order against defendants in response to writ petitions filed separately by Senior Advocate Dinesh Tripathi and Advocate Anil Acharya, after hearing arguments from both sides. On November 6, the apex court had issued a shortterm stay order in these cases and had called both sides to present their arguments on whether or not interim order should be issued in these cases.
In the case filed by Acharya, the SC ordered the EC not to prosecute Facebook groups under Electronic Transaction Act for running No, Not Again campaign. Tripathi, on the other hand, had filed a writ petition against the EC last week challenging its decision on the No, Not Again campaign.
