Petitioner questions impartiality of panel formed to probe September 8–9 incidents
KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 5
The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause notice to the government in response to a writ petition challenging the neutrality of the Inquiry Commission formed to investigate the September 8–9 incidents.
A division bench of Officiating Chief Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal and Justice Abdul Ajiz Musalman on Monday directed the government to submit a written reply.
The writ, filed by Bipin Dhakal, names Commission Chair Gauri Bahadur Karki, members Bigyan Raj Sharma and Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari, and the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers as defendants.
The petitioner questioned the Commission's impartiality, citing concerns over public remarks made by its members before the start of the investigation. The Commission was constituted on September 21 to look into the incidents.
