SC tells govt to control pollution

Kathmandu, September 25

The Supreme Court today issued the full text of the verdict directing the government to control air pollution caused due to various reasons.

A joint bench of justices Deepak Raj Joshi and Cholendra Shumsher Rana had issued the verdict on May 4, 2017, ordering the government and 18 other government agencies to comply with the laws to keep the air clean. The order states that since the constitution of the country has guaranteed citizens’ right to live in a clean and healthy environment as a fundamental right, the government must take measures to keep the environment clean.

Advocate Padam Bahadur Shrestha had filed a petition at the SC, demanding that the government take measures to control air pollution, vehicular emissions and dust pollution.
