Scribe Sayami detained for taking video of road extension

KATHMANDU: Police detained poet and journalist Sneh Sayami when he was taking video of the road extension activities in Dhungeadda of Kathmandu on Saturday.

"A police official came toward me and snatched my mobile phone and ordered his personnel to arrest me," he said, "But, I did not know why they arrested me and where they were taking me."

According to him, he was just taking a video of an excavator demolishing locals' houses in presence of around 100 riot police personnel.

He said he was later taken to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kalimati, where he knew that it was DSP Hem Kumar Thapa who ordered his arrest.

Meanwhile, in a video posted on his Facebook account, Sayami expressed dissatisfaction over the police action as it was against the democratic values.

He, however, was released after few hours after locals and various organisations protested the arrest, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported.
