Scribes protest media fiat through Deusi
Kathmandu, November 1:
The Reporters’ Club Nepal today organised a Deusi programme and called it a part of its ongoing movement against the recently-promulgated media ordinance.
Journalists, human rights activists, civil society members and youths from different walks of life participated in the Deusi, according to a press release issued by the club.
Speaking at a function, president of the Club Rishi Dhamala said journalists are not at all excited in celebrating this Tihar as the ‘draconian’ ordinance has been promulgated.
“Freedom is the most important assest of journalists and that has been taken away. Therefore, we are protesting it through this Deusi programme, too.”
The Deusi programme was held in prohibitory areas after a rally. Participants also shouted slogans demanding the ordinance be withdrawn and the rule of law be a established in the country. They also demanded the government apologise to journalists.
Commoners in large numbers gathered to see journalists irganise the deusi programme, the press release said.
