Scuffle leads to three-hour traffic jam

Kathmandu, November 23:

The drivers of the Valley Swoyambhu Bus Service Committee staged chakka jam at Kalimati this afternoon following a scuffle with the traffic police obstructing vehicular movement for around three hours.

“The problem arose after a traffic policeman stationed there demanded licence from one of the drivers of the VSBSC. The cop claimed he had asked for the licence because the bus was stopped at wrong place whereas the driver claimed that the cop beat him up,” said Achyut Rijal, vice-president of the VSBSC. He said the problem was solved after the driver and the cop agreed to accept their mistakes and the cop agreed to pay for the treatment of the injured driver.

The locals and the passengers had threatened to set ablaze the buses that caused traffic jam. Elsewhere, truck drivers blocked traffic at Satdobato following a heated debate with traffic police today.
