Settle constitutional issues through talks: RPP

Kathmandu, September 3

Pashupati Shamsher JB Rana led Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) today issued a press statement urging the ruling, and agitating parties and groups to find a negotiated settlement of constitutional issues.

RPP demanded two provinces in Madhes to address the concerns of Madhesis and Tharus.

RPP said the country needs a new constitution but not only in name. “Nepali people want a new constitution that ensures the right of the marginalized communities, including Tharus, Madhesis, women, Dalit, indigenous nationalities OBCs,” Rana added in the statement.

Expressing concern over continuing general strike in Madhes, RPP said the country cannot withstand a prolonged conflict. “Taking into account the overall situation of the country, RPP urges the ruling as well as the agitating parties and groups to seek a negotiated settlement of constitutional issues,” RPP said in its statement.

The party also urges all sides to maintain social harmony and national unity. The RPP reiterated that secularism should be removed from the constitution and the provision relating to religion should be decided through a referendum.
