Slain SSP Laxman Neupane cremated
KATHMANDU: Senior Superintendent of Police Laxman Neupane, who was lynched by a violent mob in Tikapur of Kailali yesterday, was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat on Tuesday.
The bodies of four security personnel, out of seven who were slain while trying to contain violent demonstrations staged by supporters of Tharuhat movement, were airlifted to the Capital this afternoon.
Other bodies were handed over to the respective families for the last rites.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam, former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand, Irrigation Minister NP Saud, former Deputy Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula were among dignitaries who paid their last tributes to SSP Neupane.
Senior security officials, including the chief of Nepal Police Upendra Kanta Aryal, Acting Chief of Army Staff General Rajendra Chhetri and Armed Police Force's Inspector General Kosh Raj Onta, paid last tributes to the SSP at the Gaushala-based Metropolitan Police Circle, where his body was kept after bringing to Kathmandu.
Neupane's son lit the funeral pyre as per the family tradition. Neupane is survived by his wife and two children- a son and a daughter.
Inspectors cremated in Kanchanpur
Meanwhile, inspectors Balaram Bista and Keshav Bohara, who were also killed by the supporters of Tharuhat movement at Tikapur, were cremated in their home district Kanchanpur.
Bista was cremated on the bank of Mahakali River, while Bohara on the bank of Doda River.
