KATHMANDU, MARCH 28

South Korean Ambassador Park Taeyoung attended the inauguration of the Sunakothi Greenhouse Project in Lalitpur on Thursday, highlighting growing Nepal–South Korea cooperation in agriculture and development.

The project is supported by Cheorwon-gun, a sister city of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, and aims to promote modern agricultural practices among local farmers.

Mayor Lee Hyunjong stressed the importance of sister-city relations and expressed interest in expanding collaboration with Nepal in areas such as modern agriculture, waste management, urban beautification and sports development.

The initiative focuses on introducing greenhouse tunnel technology to support off-season vegetable production, particularly benefiting women farmers associated with the Chhahari Krishi Single Women Farmers Group in Sunakothi. The project also includes training to enhance skills and productivity.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Park said the project reflects deepening bilateral ties and underscored South Korea's commitment to sharing advanced agricultural technology to improve farmers' incomes and livelihoods.

Lalitpur Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan said the project would help modernise Nepal's agricultural sector while empowering local farmers with new skills and knowledge.

The programme was attended by over 50 participants, including officials from Cheorwon-gun, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, the South Korean Embassy and local women farmers.
