KATHMANDU, AUGUST 6

Speaker Devraj Ghimire is going to hold a discussion with the top leaders of political parties regarding the removal of obstruction at the House of Representatives.

Speaker Ghimire is scheduled to hold discussion with them tomorrow, according to the Speaker's Secretariat. Earlier today, Speaker Ghimire discussed with the chief whips of major political parties regarding the matter. Since the ruling and opposition parties stuck to their stance on the gold smuggling case, the meeting was rescheduled for tomorrow.

Speaker Ghimire has called for meeting with the top leaders of major political parties tomorrow at 12:00 noon in a bid to clear the impasse in the Parliament, according to the Secretariat.

In today's meeting, chief whips of the ruling parties said there was no need to form a high-level investigation committee to probe corruption cases, including gold smuggling racket. According to them, the government agencies were capable of taking needful actions. However, parliamentarians from the opposition party, CPN-UML, called for a high-level investigation committee. They viewed that the government mechanism would not carry out investigation into the scam and the leaders of big parties could not be brought under the ambit of investigation.

The meeting held at the office of Speaker was attended by chief whip of Nepali Congress parliamentary party Ramesh Lekhak, UML parliamentarian Leelanath Shrestha, Rastriya Swatantra Party Parliamentary Party Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar, Janata Samajwadi-Nepal Chief Whip Pradeep Yadav and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chief Whip Gyanendra Sahi.
