SC won’t allow destruction of guthi

KATHMANDU: Amid the controversy over the Guthi Bill, a recently-release full text of the Supreme Court’s decision states that destruction of guthi will lead to destruction of religion, culture and tradition.

The SC issued the decision in a case related to Janakpur-based raj guthi on April 29. In the decision, the SC has said religion, culture and tradition can be saved for generations through guthis.

The decision also states that any matter related to abolishing religion  and culture would not get a clean chit from the court.

“The court  cannot be lenient towards any act aimed at destroying property of  temples and religious sites because that would destroy religion and  culture. Democracy cannot be institutionalised in a society where  there’s no justice,” reads the decision.
