Teachers’ role vital

KATHMANDU: “Teachers can act as agents who can bring change to villages; the messages of teachers can run as guidelines in the villages”, said Devikananda Timilsina, programme coordinator from Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) at a national meeting of teachers, whilst clarifying the reasons to choose teachers as mediums for change.

A Kathmandu Declaration entitled ‘Children and our duty’ was issued on the concluding day of the workshop. The declaration points out aspects of trafficking, sexual exploitation, primary health and sanitation and child labour as prime issues of child rights, especially for girl children in rural areas.

Upadhyaya nominated chairman

Kathmandu, May 16: The government has nominated Devendra Prasad Upadhyay, chairman of the Devghat Development Committee, as a member of the high level technical team. The team has been constituted to prepare an action plan by carrying studies on Saptagandaki Hydro Electric and Narayani river control. RSS

FNJ committee welcomed

KATHMANDU: The newly elected Central Working Committee officials of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) were welcomed at a function today organised by Press Chautari Nepal. On the occasion, speakers stressed the need for FNJ, an umbrella organisation of Nepali journalists to move ahead with responsibility. Spokesman of nc arjun narsingh k.c said journalists should work for removing the crisis that has been befallen democracy because of terrorist violence. Spokesman of CPN-UML Pradip nepal pointed out the need to take effective steps to restore the curtailed rights of civil society and to remove the widespread crisis in multi party democracy. FNJ president elect Taranath Dahal said at a time when press freedom has been infringed and rights of the masses violated, fnj has a big challenge before it. President of Press Chautari Nepal Shambhu Shrestha said efforts should be made to remove the weaknesses of the federation which a common institution of all journalism related organisations. RSS
