KATHMANDU, AUGUST 05
Three multiple record holder climbers, Tenjen (Lama) Sherpa, Kristin Harila, and Nima Rinji Sherpa, received a hero's welcome at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu today.
The trio was welcomed at TIA by State Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Sushila Sirpali Thakuri, with garlands and flowers. Along with State Minister Sirpali, various tourism-related organizations, including the Ministry of Tourism, Department of Tourism, Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), and other climbers, were present to welcome the climbers.

Similarly, Nima Rinji Sherpa from Makalu, Sankhuwasabha, holds multiple climbing records, having scaled eight 8,000ers at the age of 17. He is the world's youngest climber to scale K2, having reached the summit on July 27 at the age of 17 years and 99 days, also becoming the world's youngest climber to have scaled Broad Peak, G1, G2 and Nanga Parbat. Earlier in the last spring season, Nima Rinji set the world record on Mt Everest and Lhotse for the youngest age by climbing double headers (8000ers) at 17 years and 35 days on May 24 within 10 hours. In 2022, Nima Rinji set the world record as the youngest person to have scaled Mt Manaslu's true summit. Nima Rinji is on a mission to become the youngest climber to complete all 14 peaks above 8,000m.
The trio, who arrived in Kathmandu from Pakistan via Dubai, were honored at a special program organized at the Nepal Tourism Board in Bhrikutimandap. During the program, the climbers were awarded the Silver badge and a letter of appreciation. In the same program, NMA also honored Muktu Sherpa, Ang Dawa Sherpa, Ngima Dorchi Sherpa, and Pechumbe Sherpa with letters of appreciation.
At the felicitation event, Rakesh Gurung, the Director of the Mountain Tourism Section of the Department of Tourism, applauded Kristin, Tenjen, Nima, and all the climbers for their exceptional achievements. NMA described the climbers' accomplishments as unparalleled and extended heartfelt congratulations to all the record-breakers. The event was participated by various distinguished individuals, including Elisbeth Wemberg from the Royal Norwegian Embassy, other record-holder climbers, high-level government officials, and notable personalities.
