TMDP urges govt to begin Constitution amendment process
KATHMANDU: The Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) demanded that the government immediately begin the Constitution amendment process.
A two-day meeting of the party's central office bearers, central members and lawmakers held on Tuesday and Wednesday demanded that the government make its opinion clear about the agitating Madhes-based parties' demand and begin the amendment process, party Chairman Mahantha Thakur informed in a statement.
Expressing serious concerns over the government's apathy towards implementation of a three-point agreement the ruling coalition members, Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Centre, had signed with the agitating parties before the PM's election in August, the party said the Constitution amendment as per the agreement was a must to address the agitators' demand.
Meanwhile, the party said the Local Body Restructuring Commission's reported proposal to allocate 30 per cent local bodies to the Tarai region was discriminatory and conspiratorial.
