Seven people hurt after traffic jeep hits bikes
KATHMANDU: A Nepal Police traffic jeep hit several bikes and injured at least seven people at Babarmahal in the Capital on Wednesday afternoon.
According to an eyewitness, the vehicle with registration number Ba 2 Jha 1921 came speeding in the wrong lane, hit three motorcycles and knocked down a pedestrian before it crashed into the roadside traffic island.
The injured were rushed to the Civil Service Hospital in New Baneshwar for treatment. Among the injured are one woman and six men.
One of the victims has sustained severe injuries on his head, according to Dr Pabitra Shrestha at the Emergency Ward of the hospital.
The woman, who was riding pillion on a bike, has injured her left leg in the incident.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the traffic vehicle witnessed brake failure. No skid mark is visible on the busy road of the Araniko Highway.
The jeep driver, identified as Prakash Kunwar, had informed his commander that the jeep suffered brake failure, according to Inspector Sagar Bohara.
He said the driver has been taken in custody for investigation.
