KATHMANDU, JANUARY 27
Police have arrested two persons on the charge of defrauding people by luring them with promises of attractive salaries and employment opportunities in Canada and Japan.
The arrested have been identified as Sharda Karki (39), a resident of Parsagadhi Municipality-3, Parsa, currently living in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32, and Rabin Shrestha (30), a resident of Satyawati Rural Municipality-1, Gulmi, currently residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-8.
According to police reports, Sharda duped five victims by taking Rs 685,500, claiming she could send them to Canada, while Rabin swindled Rs 2,050,000 from one victim with false promises of employment in Japan. Both individuals became unreachable after collecting the money.
Acting on complaints from the victims, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested Sharda from Teku on Sunday and Rabin from Kalopul on Friday.
Sharda has been transferred to the Kathmandu District Police Office for further investigation and legal action, while Rabin has been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for additional proceedings, police said.
Further investgation into the cases is underway, police added.
