UML, Maoist Centre to contest polls jointly, likely to merge later

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party CPN-UML and the ruling coalition partner CPN Maoist Centre have agreed on forging an electoral alliance for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and the State Assemblies scheduled for November 26 and December 7.

According to CPN MC Leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, talks between the top leaders of both the political parties ended with agreement on forging an electoral alliance and constituting a joint coordination committee for party unification. The meeting was held in Lalitpur.

Both political parties would organise a joint press meet at the City Hall in Kathmandu at 5:00 pm today to unveil the agreements.
