KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 20

The National Assembly meeting scheduled for today has been postponed due to objections from the CPN, the main opposition party (UML).

The meeting scheduled for Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to present the National Dalit Commission's annual reports for fiscal years 2019/20 and 2020/21 was stymied when UML lawmakers rose from their seats in protest shortly after the NA session began, claiming that the NA business could not proceed until their demands were met.

The obstruction continued despite repeated appeals from NA Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina to allow Upper House activity to proceed. After his efforts were in futile, he declared that the NA meeting would be postponed till further notice.

The protesting UML has demanded action against UML MPs who have been subjected to UML sanctions.
